H.E. Mr. El-Taher El-Baour, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met today, Tuesday, 22 September 2026, with H.E. Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.<\/p>\n

The two sides discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the State of Libya and the African Union, and to develop mechanisms for joint consultation in a manner that enhances Libya\u2019s presence and role within the African institutional framework. They also discussed arrangements related to Libya\u2019s hosting of the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Member States of the Committee of Ten (C10) on the Reform of the United Nations Security Council, scheduled to take place in Tripoli on 10 and 11 October.<\/p>\n

The two sides also discussed ongoing preparations for Libya to host the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) meeting, as well as the Africa\u2013T\u00fcrkiye Summit, scheduled to be held in December this year.<\/p>\n

The meeting also addressed the latest political and security developments in Libya and across the African continent, efforts to promote peace, security, and stability, and the importance of supporting African solutions to the challenges facing the continent, while strengthening cooperation in the areas of development, migration, counterterrorism, and combating organized crime.<\/p>\n

In this context, the two sides discussed the role of the African Union in supporting the political process and efforts to achieve stability in Libya, as well as the importance of continuing coordination between the Libyan authorities and the African Union Commission in a manner that contributes to advancing the political process and supports the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, stability, and development.<\/p>\n
