H.E. Mr. El-Taher El-Baour, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, participated today, Monday, 7 September 2026, in the 166th Session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Foreign Ministers\u2019 level, held at the headquarters of the League\u2019s General Secretariat in Cairo, Egypt. The session was attended by Arab foreign ministers and heads of delegations, chaired by the Republic of Tunisia, and attended by Mr. Nabil Fahmy, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, in his first regular ministerial-level meeting of the Council since assuming his post.<\/p>\n

The opening session featured statements by the presidencies of the previous and current sessions, as well as an address by the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, before the foreign ministers proceeded to discuss the agenda items and draft resolutions submitted for their consideration.<\/p>\n

The Palestinian cause and developments in the Gaza Strip and Jerusalem topped the issues on the agenda of the Arab foreign ministers, alongside developments concerning a number of regional crises and issues and ways to strengthen joint Arab action.<\/p>\n

The foreign ministers also discussed a number of pressing Arab issues, foremost among them developments in Libya, as well as issues related to regional security and stability and strengthening coordination among Arab countries.<\/p>\n

The session also featured the participation of Christian Saunders, Acting Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), amid the Agency\u2019s funding crisis and the political challenges it faces.<\/p>\n
