H.E. Mr. El- Taher El-Baour, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, met on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, with H.E. Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, on the sidelines of the 49th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.<\/p>\n

The meeting discussed ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the State of Libya and the African Union Commission, in addition to reviewing a number of issues on the Union\u2019s agenda and matters of common interest on the African continent.<\/p>\n

The two sides also reviewed recent developments across Africa and the efforts being undertaken to promote peace, security, and sustainable development. They emphasized the importance of continued consultation and coordination in support of African joint action and the aspirations of the peoples of the continent.<\/p>\n

In this context, the two sides discussed the ongoing preparations for hosting the upcoming Africa\u2013T\u00fcrkiye Summit in Tripoli next December, following the signing of the Host Agreement with the African Union Commission earlier on Tuesday on the sidelines of the Executive Council session. They also discussed the arrangements related to the reopening of the African Union Mission in Tripoli in the near future, reflecting the growing cooperation between Libya and the African Union and supporting the advancement of African joint action.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, H.E. Mr. El-Baour reaffirmed Libya\u2019s commitment to supporting the efforts of the African Union and strengthening its role in addressing current challenges in a manner that serves the interests of Member States and contributes to consolidating peace, stability, and development across the African continent.<\/p>\n

For his part, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission commended Libya\u2019s active role within the institutions of the African Union and its contributions to advancing African joint action, stressing the importance of continued cooperation and coordination with Libya on issues of mutual interest.<\/p>\n
