His Excellency Mr. El-Taher El-Baour, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, received today, Sunday, 28 June 2026, at the Ministry’s headquarters, the United Nations Secretary-General\u2019s Special Representative for Libya, Ms. Hanna Tetteh, accompanied by her Deputy, Ms. Stephanie Koury.<\/p>\n

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the latest developments in Libya\u2019s political process and discussed the efforts undertaken by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) to advance the political process toward a comprehensive settlement that would foster lasting peace, security, and stability in the country.<\/p>\n

The Special Representative briefed Minister El-Baour on the outcomes of her recent consultations and meetings with a number of Libyan and international stakeholders, conducted as part of the Mission\u2019s efforts to support the political process, promote national consensus, and bridge differences among the various parties.<\/p>\n

For his part, Minister El-Baour reaffirmed the Government of National Unity\u2019s full support for the efforts and mandate of the United Nations Mission, stressing the importance of maintaining close cooperation and coordination with the United Nations in order to ensure the success of the political process, achieve national consensus, overcome the current challenges, support the path toward sustainable development, and consolidate the foundations of peace, security, and stability in Libya.<\/p>\n

He further emphasized that the solution to the Libyan crisis must be Libyan-led and Libyan-owned, reflecting the will of the Libyan people, safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and unity, and limiting external interference that hinders the political settlement process.<\/p>\n

Minister El-Baour also underscored the importance of supporting the Government of National Unity\u2019s efforts to bring the transitional phases to an end and to create the appropriate conditions for holding free, fair, and credible parliamentary and presidential elections at the earliest possible opportunity, in a manner that meets the aspirations of the Libyan people and lays the foundation for a new phase of political stability and sustainable development.<\/p>\n
